KAKOUETA - Like Holzarte, this is one of the most spectacular canyons of upper Soule (there are 5 altogether) between Larrau and Sainte-Engrâce, dug out of the limestone bed-rock of the mountain by glacial meltwater. Only between 3 and 10 m wide and up to 200 m deep. A footpath enables you to visit the gorge as far as the Lake Grotto and (after an hour's walk... with good shoes) a spectacular waterfall - the outlet of underground streams collected over a vast area and which run through many caverns, the most well-known being the abyss of La-Pierre-Saint-Martin.
