HOPITAL-SAINT-BLAISE - On the border between Béarn and the Basque Country, this edifice was part of a hospitalier foundation for pilgrims on their way to Compostella on the route via Ostabat (Basse-Navarre). All that remains is this remarkably well-preserved late-12th-century Romanesque church. Its plan is in the shape of a Greek cross, with central octagonal tower topped by an oriental-style cupola. In many other details it is very reminiscent of Hispano-Moorish art, which is proof of a common influence shared with our neighbours south of the Pyrenees.
