SARE (SARA in Basque, or in modem Basque « xara », copse/wood). About 2,100 inhabitants (Saratar). A beautiful Labourd village with its typical houses, its many chapels (no fewer than 15), and its l7th-century church, on whose facade you can read the following : « Horen guziek dute gizona kolpatzen, askenekoak du hobirat igortzen », Every hour injures man, the last one sends him to the grave. We must also spare a thought for the captain-cum-poet Elissamburu, who came from this village and who wrote the song « Ikusten duzu goizean...».
